Okay, so we have some ways to get paid for our knowledge (see the previous post), but how do you find the people looking for our knowledge? The answer is actually really simple…
You tell people. You tell everyone.
I know that seems overly simple but hear me out.
Most people when they start any of those methods I covered in my previous post assume that people will just magically discover them. They might put together a website and start a social media account, but then they wonder why the phone is not ringing and the followers aren’t coming.
It’s because no one knows!
In this digital world, it’s very hard to be “accidentally” found by people.
You need to be intentional.
Send an email to everyone in your contacts. Don’t say something like “So, I’m thinking about offering web design and was wondering if you needed someone to make your website.”
No.
Be confident.
Make what you’re planning sound irresistible.
And don’t say you’re thinking about doing it. Say you are doing it!
Always remember to say something like “Please pass along my contact info to anyone you think would be interested in [insert whatever it is you’re doing.]”
Also, don’t post about it or mention it once and assume that’s enough. Depending on the source, most research indicates that it takes anywhere from 5-12 marketing interactions to turn a prospect into a buyer.
Next, you need to go looking for the people who are also looking for you!
For example, you might check out some job websites looking for companies that are hiring people with your expertise. No, you aren’t going to apply for the job (unless you want to, of course!) instead, you are going to provide a creative solution to their problem.
Maybe they don’t need a full-time person to do something. Maybe they need your online course that will teach them how to easily get the same results without having to hire someone to do it. Or maybe they just need a consultant for a few weeks to help them through the situation.
Before I end this post, I want to give you a little pep talk.
Your knowledge is valuable and has the potential to make a difference for individuals, companies, relationships, and even the world. If you are willing to do the work, you can find people willing to pay you for your knowledge!
This is all good advice! Thanks!
